ERT JOB DESCRIption

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) is a highly trained squad that operates within the Greenville Police Department. Team members carry out dangerous missions such as rescuing hostages, serving arrest warrants under fire, and subduing criminals who are armed beyond the capacity of regular police officers. Unlike the investigative branch of law enforcement, ERT is focused on tactical solutions to safely resolve critical incidents. Applicants are subject to a rigorous selection and training process. The members of the Emergency Response Team are assigned other full-time duties and serve on the Emergency Response Team as needed.

Duties

  • High-risk warrant entries
  • Non-violent apprehension of armed and barricaded suspects
  • Protection of visiting dignitaries
  • Rescue missions involving hostages, officers and citizens captured or endangered by gunfire
  • Counterterrorist operations
