Special Investigations Unit Job Description

The Greenville Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit encompasses the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force and Federal Task Force officers.

The Drug Task Force uses a focused and cost-effective approach to combating narcotics traffickers within Pitt County and Eastern North Carolina. The Drug Task Force provides an extremely effective network of experienced criminal investigators dedicated to pursuing violators of state and federal controlled substance laws.

The Greenville Police Department also partners with several federal and state agencies to include the FBI, ATF, DEA, and NC SBI.

Duties

  • Conducts long-term, multi-jurisdictional drug investigations
  • Investigates illegal distribution of firearms
  • Investigates violent criminals involving the use of firearms
  • Tracks purchases of firearms
  • Investigates criminals and criminal enterprises involved in drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, and violent street gangs
  • Investigates missing and endangered person cases
  • Uses sophisticated technology investigate and apprehend
