School Resource Officer Job Description

After completing specialized training, School Resource Officers are assigned to a school. Many SROs find themselves challenged with different opportunities in addition to their law enforcement job. They mentor juveniles, mediate disputes, demonstrate leadership, provide knowledge and advice, as well as ensure safety of all school occupants. These special police officers are often the first encounter many children have with law enforcement; and as such can impact their viewpoint for a lifetime. The positive relationships between SROs and the children can be life-changing.

  • Build positive relationships with students, serve as a mentor and teach life skills (manners, how to treat people, conflict resolution, de–escalation)
